Is there a way to prevent a car radio changing backwards and forwards between local radio stations?

I am sorry that I was away and missed the opportunity to choose the best answer to this question, but I did vote. Thanks to those who answered. It is not the traffic information broadcasts, but a switch between stations in border areas. As most of the UK is a border area, I suppose I'll have to stick to national channels. Is there a way to prevent a car radio changing backwards and forwards between local radio stations?Just so you know, if you're talking about FM radio, the radio will hear only the strongest station it's receiving. So if you're driving on the fringes of signal of 2 stations, as you move, which station is strongest will change, and you'll %26quot;bounce%26quot; between them.

If it happens with only 1 station - popping in and out - it's called %26quot;picket-fencing%26quot; (imagine watching something through the tops of a picket fence as you're driving past it), but it's caused by the same thing - the station and the noise trading places for which is strongest.

FM receivers %26quot;capture%26quot; the strongest signal. (The difference between signal strength for one to be captured is called the %26quot;capture ratio%26quot; of the particular receiver.)

RDS is the system that switches channels, switch that off and you shouldn't have a problem. TP, or TPS is the traffic reports.

If it's the same frequency, not much you can do besides a directional antenna.
Press the the 'tp' or tps or ats off on your stereo as this is tuning in to what ever station is going to have traffic announcements, maybe not straight away but after the song has finished playing.
