OK so heres where it gets messed up! My nana gave me her car about 8 months ago.the horn doesnt work and cant pass emmisions for various reasons. so I have kind of forgotten about it. well last month nana passed away and I realize now that I need to do something with her old car. I cant drive it because it still smells her and needs medical attention that I cannot give it! So here is my question. does a car need to pass emisions for a title change when your just going to turn right around and sell it? what are the rules on that and where would I find it! thanks for the helpChanging Car title in texas.... kinda messed up question.?consult the DMV and her probate attorney.

you can transfer title to a vehicle and specify that it is not running and will not be on the road. Please call the tag office or check out the state website.

well just sell it or try to sell it but you will need to pass the test to get a title on it...
You will be the buyer, you will only need the title signed by your nana. No smog is required. You may have to pay sales tax. When you sell the vehicle you will need to tell any potential buyer that the vehicle needs work before it will pass smog, or you could sell it to someone who lives in a county that does not require smog inspections.

you ARE going to have to get it to pass emissions to use it. Texas is a b****. You should go to the DMV in your township and explain the situation in its ENTIRETY and find out EVERYTHING you need so you arent driving 2 hours everyday tryna deal with this mess. bring someone with you whos intelligent and knows about the DMV in texas. it isnt called the DMV though, i think its called the DMI or something like that.

You have to get the title changed over to your name before you can turn around and sell it. i know that for sure! that happened to me- luckily the guy who bought my car owned a dealership so he just had to take it in there with his dealership license and vwala!
It doesnt need to pass anything when you sell it.. Just hand the title over.
