Problems changing from 1st to 2nd gear in car?

Every time I set off in my car and change from 1st to 2nd, I cause my car too jerk and it loses speed.I always seem to be in 1st gear travelling about 10+mph it's really bugging me it's just a bad habit i've got into any idea's what to do?

I think what you are doing wrong is not getting up enough speed before going from first to second try a little more speed and see if that might work for you ... or get a automatic.
