What song is playing in the movie UNDERWORLD when Michael Corvin is in the police car and is changing?
Actually, I think it's from the movie SCORE, which is different from the soundtrack. The soundtrack has songs from various artists that contributed to it. The score is original music made specifically for the film. It can be bought at music stores or downloaded on music sites just like any other album.

How old do you have to be to work in a car dealership changing oil?

16 YEARS OLDHow old do you have to be to work in a car dealership changing oil?most likely 18, but you could probably find a place that will let you start at 16/17...
How old do you have to be to work in a car dealership changing oil?
when I was a sophomore in high school I started in a dealership washing and detailing cars at night after school and by the time I was a senior I was doing oil changes and wheel alignments on Saturdays for the dealer.

How much would it cost to have the gear ratio in the front and rear of a car changed to get more torque?

I have a 2006 grand prix. How much would it cost to have the gear ratio in the front and rear of a car changed to get more torque?if you do t yourself nothing for the labor but you need a larger Drive Gear to achieve that. If you take it to a shop your looking at 200-300 for parts and $500-600 for labor so anywhere close to $1,000 at most but probably aroun $600-$800 if your lucky.
How much would it cost to have the gear ratio in the front and rear of a car changed to get more torque?
It is a front wheel drive car, so that there is only one gear set you have to worry about.

Parts and labor are going to be over $1,000- because it is more difficult to do this work on a front wheel drive car, and scarcity of gear choices.

Make sure you understand that your fuel economy will drop approximately proportionally to your increase in torque.

My car radio changes stations on its own?

The stock radio in my car changes frequencies by itself (channel hopping). For instance, I'll be driving and listening to 91.5, and after a few minutes it goes to another station. It's a 2000 Toyota Camry and has no steering wheel buttons for me to press accidentally. Is there a ghost in the car? What's going on?My car radio changes stations on its own?Funny you mention that, my ex girlfriend, the whore, has a Scion Tc and the same thing happens when the radio is hot. If you get into the car and it's blazing hot, until the radio cools down, it does its own thing. Maybe it's a temperature thing.

Anyone who can tell me all the different problems that cause a car to hesitate while accelerating?

this is a problem that i have in two cars...changed plugs in both, wires, even the cat conv in one...those r reasons ive been told cause the car to hesitate. any others? its the hesitation when steppin on the gas pedal, or the car %26quot;shrugs%26quot; when it deccelerates or under sudden acceleration after a constant speed.plz help.Anyone who can tell me all the different problems that cause a car to hesitate while accelerating?I had a similar problem in an old car - it was a timing issue (one of the cylinders was firing late). It continued to happen after replacing the spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap. I had to get the timing belt adjusted by a mechanic.

In theory, you could do this yourself, but you run the risk of seriously screwing up your engine. If the car has more than 60,000-100,000 miles on it, you should have the timing belt replaced altogether. It can be expensive ($500-$600), but worth it to prevent a timing belt failure (throwing a piston while driving will not only ruin your engine, but create an extremely dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation for you and all of the other drivers around you at the time).
Anyone who can tell me all the different problems that cause a car to hesitate while accelerating?
Dirty plugs, bad plug wires, clogged fuel filter, fuel system dirty, problems with ignition timing, problems with ignition system, problems with catalytic converter, problems with auto transmission or torque converter, problems with clutch slippage in manual transmission. bad fuel, water in fuel, extremely dirty air filter.
Anyone who can tell me all the different problems that cause a car to hesitate while accelerating?
Don't make this too complicated. It sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Check the vast array of vacuum hoses and you will find one that is cracked or broken. It is a lean run situation so it may be low fuel pressure or low volume, but I still think it is a vacuum leak.

    Check the simplest things first.
Possible reasons are: Change oil, Change or clean Spark Plug, Clutch, Fuel Pump
well if it is a newer car there is probably a free dealer fix for it, they probably just remap the air/fuel maps with a simple plugin into the ecu.

Can one convert an automatic tran. for a manual in a used car?

I have a 2004 Acura TL that was just given but I prefer a manual transmission. Can I get the car changed to have a stick shift. I realise the implcation and the amount of work involved. How much would this cost me?/Is it worth it?Can one convert an automatic tran. for a manual in a used car?Well it's unnecessary as the TL already has a manumatic meaning you can shift it as well.
Can one convert an automatic tran. for a manual in a used car?
i own a repair shop and i have changed a Honda civic over before and it cost around 1500 bucks for everything to do it with, and around 800 labor on doing this ,i told the man it was going to cost more than the car was worth but he said do it,so you don't argue with the customer, but it turned out well if i ever do another one though i,ll try and buy a good parts car to do it from, its cheaper and faster this way but yes you can do it,its not a real hard job, but consumes a lot of time to get it right, good luck with i,hope this helps.
Can one convert an automatic tran. for a manual in a used car?
Yes you can do it but its not worth the time and money.
You have to ask yourself if it's really worth it? On a car 3 years old it would be better just to sell it and buy another that is already a manual. Your talking close to $2000 to pay a autobody shop to do this and you will void any warranty that the car might still have. I've switched from a manual to an automatic and this was a pain in the a## in the 80's Todays cars have a lot more sensors and electronics attached to the transmissions to optimize performance.

I would strongly suggest selling the car and buying what you really want so you'll have the reliablity and peace of mind that you should expect from a quality car built by Honda..

How often do you get the oil in your car changed?

I know they say every 3000 miles, but I was curious how often you do? Is 3000 really a good estimate or do they just give that number to get you to come back more to get your oil changed (like at jiffy lube)? How often do you get the oil in your car changed?Depends on the type of driving you do. If you mostly do %26quot;easy%26quot; freeway driving, you can change the oil every 5,000 miles.

If you do a lot of stop and go or pull a trailer or some other 'heavy duty%26quot; driving, change it every 3,000 miles.

Also depends on the oil you use. Synthetic oil lasts longer.

In general follow what the manual to your car says, not what those %26quot;experts%26quot; at Jiffy Lube say.

I own two Mercedes cars. One old and one newer. I do normal city and freeway driving. In the old car I use regular oil and change it every 4,000 miles. In the newer car I use synthetic oil and change it every 8,000 miles. By they way, the old car manual says 5,000 and the newer car manual says 10,000 but I do it a littler more often to be on the safe side.

My Mercedes mechanic, who I trust completely, agrees with me.
How often do you get the oil in your car changed?
i do it every three months
How often do you get the oil in your car changed?
It depends on your driving characteristics, your engine, choice of oil, and other factors. Generally 5,000 miles works well, unless you have more information to go on. To really be sure, you can have an oil analysis done for about $25-.

In our Jeep, we are going 10,000 miles between changes based on:

    * oil analysis

    * premium synthetic oil

    * driving style - mostly longer trips.
    3000 no more then 5000
actually 3000 miles is just right ( unless it is synthetic oil ) that can go another 1000 miles, but at 3,000 miles the regular oil gets dirty.breaks down and stops lubricating like its supposed to, also from now on try using a quart of lucas oil stabilizer , you will notice the improvement right away, it costs 10 bucks at auto zone, well worth the price, and it will make your engine run cooler and get better mileage
    every 3-5k

i think every 3k is too much
I change mine every 4000 miles, but I use synthetic oil in my vehicles. When I was using standard motor oil I changed it every 3000 miles. It will make you car last a lot longer.
3000 mile intervals is good for both the oil and filter to be changed. You don't want the old oil to be black, just a caramel to light brown color. Waiting until the oil is black will cause tarnish to build up on motor parts and with some vehicles that have adjustable cam timing as with Nissan and Infiniti's changing oil every 3000 miles is critical. The solenoids for the cam timing start throwing codes and big buck repair bills are next.

Changing oil every 3000 miles is the cheapest thing that makes a big difference to you cars life, it's not the place to save money. Using Mobil 1 is supposed to make it possible to go longer between oil changes, but the oil filters get dirty and I personally recommend just using regular oil with a factory oil filter every 3000 miles.

I have 206,753 miles on my 1998 Grand Prix GTP and the oil gets changed at 3000 mile intervals, so...don't consider it being a rip off.

  • What is the correct speed for changing gears in a car?

In the absence of the tachometer, what is the correct speed at which we have to shift the gears (presuming that we are driving in plane road without gradient or steep)What is the correct speed for changing gears in a car?Don't look at speedometer to change the gears,

Rely on motion of the Car, you yourself have to study motion of the car... to accelerate always change the gear when in particular gear car is already in smooth motion. Over accelerating in low gear will lead to more fuel consumption.

to decelerate Again watchh motion of the car, if the pickup isn't good than shift to lower gears.
What is the correct speed for changing gears in a car?
Every 10 MPH or so will be acceptable and give you decent gas mileage.

    0-10 first

    10-20 second

    etc
What is the correct speed for changing gears in a car?
Depends on how many cylinders you have. I have a six. 2nd at about 10, 3rd at about 25-30, 4th at about 35-45, and 5th at about 50-55. Just listen to your engine. It will tell you when its time to change.
you don't drive do you? it all depends on how much acceleration you give the car there is no predetermine time or speed light acceleration you can shift at 5 mph or heavy on the pedal you can wait til 30mph high performance cars you can take 1st up to 50 sometimes more.
    2000 - 3000rpm
Ideally you would have a tachometer. During normal driving you should change gears when the RPM approaches near 2000.

If you are racing, you would probably get the maximum torque when you tach out near the red line. Don't push the tach very far into the red line or you might damage (or blow) your engine.

If you don't have a tachometer, just change gears when the power of acceleration starts trailing off. In any gear, if the auto is sluggish or jerky then move down a gear and increase the speed till it has the desired power going into the next gear. Every car is a little different.

    I always buy cars/trucks that have %26quot;rally gages%26quot;
You change gears when you can hear your motor stating to rev too high

What happens when you don't get the oil in your car changed?

I haven't gotten the oil in my car changed in WAYY too long and this morning when i went to start it, it turned on, then shut off!!!! it's possible that i left a light on and the battery died, but im REALLY nervous that i broke my car!!? Triple A is on the way but i need some reassurance! And i already know that i should change the oil regularly... please dont remind me!What happens when you don't get the oil in your car changed? If it started and then died its not your battery. It could have nothing to do with your lack of maintenance or it could be your engine seizing up from dirty oil. But either way its not good on the car in the long term.
What happens when you don't get the oil in your car changed?
    Your engine can seize.
What happens when you don't get the oil in your car changed?
Worst case scenario, the oil in your car is so dirty and thick that it has clogged up and turned into sludge. It could be something as simple as your battery being dead. I'm not a mechanic but you should definitely post year of the car, type of car, how many miles, past problems, etc etc
You could lock the engine up if there isn't much oil in there or if it isn't lubricating it properly. See what AAA says first then go from there. How long has it been since you changed the oil???
i still dont understand how people are that lazy to not get their oil change

all you have to do is drive up to an oil change place

sit in your car for 20 min

and they do the work for you..
    IT WILL BLOW UP!!!!

2000 Chevy Lumina no vaccum leaks but car sputters like one?

I have done a total tune up on the car, changed spark plugs, changed vaccum hoses, cleaned carbon from everything and when I go to take off, seems the car still wants to sputter and act as if it doesn't want to take off. When the rpms get to around 1500 it acts like it wants to shut off. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.2000 Chevy Lumina no vaccum leaks but car sputters like one?Still sounds like you have a pin prick size hole in one of your vaccum lines or your timing is a degree or so off, sure you got all the lines on correctly or that you didn't miss one in a hard to reach place? Make sure you check the timing, it could be off or you timing belt is getting ready to break or is stretched out.

Check EGR valve. Has the vehicle thrown any codes?
you may need to recheck your tune-up, make sure your wires are on in the right firing order and also make sure your plug wires are snapped on tightly.

Can an average person change their car's shocks/struts in their garage?

I have a scion TC and I recently bought shocks and struts for it. I've changed my brakes before. I can't find anything on changing the suspension. Can an average person do this in their garage? Can an average person change their car's shocks/struts in their garage? Not recommended without some prior experience and the proper tools. Removing compressed springs can be dangerous and destructive if not properly removed.
Can an average person change their car's shocks/struts in their garage?
With the right tools any job can be easy. But with shocks and struts your working with compressed springs and without the proper tools it might be a job best left up to the pros.
Can an average person change their car's shocks/struts in their garage?
The specialized tooling for this job could be as expensive as paying some one to do it.

    Spring compressor with safety cage

    Knowledge.........

Come on over, I have the tools and the knowledge. Bring your wallet.
Even with a DIY guide and the right tools, it's going to be hell the first time, especially if you aren't working with someone who knows how to do it. The front springs are not so hard to get to, but the rear springs are a PAIN to get to on the tC. Luckily, I have a friend who's changed springs on tC's many times, but it still took us a little over two hours and a LOT of work. Even after helping out and watching carefully, I still wouldn't want to attempt this by myself without more experience. Changing the brakes is cake compared to this.

I would suggest you shop around and find a trusted shop to do it for you unless you can get someone you know who has done it before to help you.
You have to get a spring compressor and make sure the springs line up right on the struts or else that will clank.

I can only remember a couple of scenes. The one that stands out the most is the people in the futuristic car are being chased by a helicopter and go into a tunnel. One of them presses the touch screen and the car changes color. Another scene from that action sequence has one of the people desperately pressing options on the screen and the car stops. Why does my car squeak when im changing gears at a high speed?

At first i thought it might be my tires, but then i realized it was from an internal mechanical part. What is this squeaking noise i hear only when i drive really fast and only normally in the changing of my first gear to second, i hear a loud squeak followed by a huge pull of the car gaining more power from higher gear. Why does my car squeak when im changing gears at a high speed?Sounds like a clutch ready to let you sit by the side of the road!!

Why does my car automatically switch to "outside air" whenever I try to defrost my front windshield?

Whenever I want to defrost my front windshield, the car changes from %26quot;circulate interior air%26quot; to %26quot;outside air%26quot; by itself. I can force it to circulate interior air as long as I hold down the button that changes my air options while I defrost. The defroster still works just fine either way! This seems to be the same for any car I'm in, whats the point? Why does my car automatically switch to %26quot;outside air%26quot; whenever I try to defrost my front windshield?Humidity. Outside air has much less of it, which means it will be more effective in evaporating the moisture that has condensed on the inside of the glass. The inside air is more humid because of you, your breath in fact. Water vapor saturates the interior, which is why you need a defroster in the first place. They make the switch automatically so you do not have to remember to do it. The defroster does NOT work fine either way. Yes, it gets WARMER either way, but no, it does not defrost as well with the more humid interior air as it does with the dryer outside air. The person above me who said the interior air is dryer is wrong. The object is to warm the interior surface to evaporate the moisture which has condensed there and dryer air is more effective than humid air when it comes to evaporating water.
Why does my car automatically switch to %26quot;outside air%26quot; whenever I try to defrost my front windshield?
The quickest way to defrost (defog) a windshield is to have the two sides as close as possible in temperature and especially in humidity. (The moisture content of the air hitting the glass surface.) Since the recirculating air is being heated or cooled in a closed environment, it tends to become drier than the outside air. Switching to %26quot;fresh%26quot; air helps match the air better. Remember that the defroster (defogger) setting is considered a safety setting where all other settings are merely comfort settings. Part of the pretrip inspection of a commercial vehicle is making sure the defroster works properly. The heater/AC settings don't matter.
Why does my car automatically switch to %26quot;outside air%26quot; whenever I try to defrost my front windshield?
Thats what there designed to do.
cause if you close the vents, it's slower to defog. and sometimes leaving your vents close actually causes it to fog up.

in your case, your melting ice, but the main purpose is for it to remove fog. and it works best with the vents open.
Additionally, cars equipped with A/C automatically blend heater air with 10% A/C air to lower the humidity and defog the windows faster.

Please help! I am worried about my 1988 Lincoln Town Car I am changing the oil?

I have two drain plugs you can unscrew and now one of them won't screw back on! No matter which direction I turn it, it just keeps going! The drain plug just won't stop turning in both directions! If you try to pull it out it won't budge though it won't come out. Is this normal? The other one seems to work fine though. If this isn't normal what should I do?Please help! I am worried about my 1988 Lincoln Town Car I am changing the oil?happened to me before. i put a screw driver under it to pry gently on it while turning it out, and for a cheap fast fix i bought an expansion plug from a hardware store. the plug is rubber with a bolt running threw it that when tighten it it expands to stop any leaks. take bolt with you so you get the right size.i did this two years ago and its still holding
Please help! I am worried about my 1988 Lincoln Town Car I am changing the oil?
well its what we call striped and not much you can do about it othe rthan replace it but first try and pry on it while turning and hope it comes out so you can buy a new one
Please help! I am worried about my 1988 Lincoln Town Car I am changing the oil?
its stripped, basically its chewed all the threads up on either the plug or the sump. my guess is the sump as its usually softer.

to get it out you may be able to use mole grips and wangle it from side o side or you may have to take the sump of and knock it out from inside, once its out you can use a tap and cut the threads a size bigger and put a bigger plug in
You have stripped the threads out. Take a screwdriver (flathead) and put it between the oil pan and the bolt and pry down lightly on it. Then take the wrench you were using to try to remove it and work it out of the pan. Once you get it out, take it to the parts store and buy an oversize self tapping replacement oil plug and put it in. It doesn't need to be super tight. Just good and snug. the same for the other plug.

a lot of reasons maybe because your car got sick and tired of getting pulled over by the cops?
Anyone who can tell me all the different problems that cause a car to hesitate while accelerating?
U might tell us what car this is happening with?

Most of the time each Brand has their own set of Problems.
    Change the followings:

    (a) Fuel filter

    (b) Air Filter

    (c) Engine Oil

    (d) Get the firing time tuned %26amp; adjusted

    (e) Get the fuel injectors (if MPFI engine) or carburetor (if a vintage car) cleaned.

    Others:

    (a) Check the brake pads for any abnormal clamping.

    (b) Check that fuel pump is working

    (c) Check that water pump is working

    This should solve your problem.
Check the timing belt. You may need to replace it if have lots miles.
A sensor might be going out. A fuel sensor, or mass air flow sensor could be going bad. The timming could be off a little. How do they start? Do they start hard? That could be a timming belt. My wife had a Pontiac 6000 that would hesitate between 25 and 30 MPH. It had the 4-tec 4 cylynder. Changed everything didnt ever find anything wrong but it would always hesitate. I guess i'm not alot of help, good luck!
i own a repair shop and it could be any of the following causing it to hesitate, like the fuel injectors or the fuel pump ,fuel filter, throttle position sensor, oxygen sensor, air filter, bent fuel lines, bad plugs and wires, bad distributor cap,bad distributor, bad coil, loose or broken vacuum lines, bad gas,any of this and then some will cause one to hesitate ,so you see there can be any number of things that can cause it, that's why it cost so much today to get a car worked on,its not like it was 30 years ago they was simple compared to the way they are now, good luck with it hope this helps.
Another simple and cheap thing to try is some fuel injector cleaner, if you haven't already. It couldn't hurt at just $2 or $3 a bottle.
you could just need a fuel filter which is only about ten bucks if you put it on yourself. it could also be a clogged air filter. there could be a problem with your coil/distributor, it can be a list of things. your timing could be off. you could have a vacuum leak.
It could be a pcv valve problem. That is usually an easy one to fix.

So someone like Richard Childress has to pay for the #3, or someone else can use the number(which would be unlikely), but it is the only way to keep it retired.
The teams are assigned #'s and as for Labonte he went to Petty Racing this year and they have #'s 41 42 43 44
the teams do not own the #'s as ur first answer says.

the #'s belong to nascar and the teams lease the #'s.

the #'s in order for the teams to keep them they must be run a certain number of times a year.

this is why childress keeps the #3,it is actually run on the side of the 29 just behind the driver on the window post
I think that the teams own the car numbers. I think
If you move to a different team, you can be a # the team owns. NASCAR doesn't give out #s
NASCAR leases the numbers to the teams. If a driver changes teams he will drive a different numbered car.

Radiator plus Labor fee? Thank you~How much to change Car Radiator in firestone? You have to ask Firestone. The price is different at other locations. Make sure they know what they are doing. Save the receipt in case of failure. There are ways to botch up this kind of job.

Don't you have a radiator shop near you? If it's all they do, they'll do it better, cheaper, and faster than a shop that %26quot;does it all%26quot;. Off the top of my head, for an american made, say buick regal, $200 for the part, and $200 labor, but cheaper at a place like vanborn radiator in taylor, mi., by about $75-100.

When u change car oil does it have to be 5000 miles or 3 months or just 5000 miles to stay in the warranty ty?

you got it wrong, it's 3 months or 3,000 miles. When u change car oil does it have to be 5000 miles or 3 months or just 5000 miles to stay in the warranty ty?If your warranty says 5000 miles OR 3 months, it means whichever is EARLIER. So either 3 months if you drive less than 5000 miles, or when 5000 miles is driven, even before the 3 months period expires.
When u change car oil does it have to be 5000 miles or 3 months or just 5000 miles to stay in the warranty ty?
    Whichever comes first
When u change car oil does it have to be 5000 miles or 3 months or just 5000 miles to stay in the warranty ty?
I do mine between 3000 miles and every 3 months.....

depends on what color the oil looks like when you check it.

My brother's car is soo good, he can wait up to 5 months, because the oil is NEW looking when he touches the end of the dipstick, rubs it in between his fingers, and sees its next to clear!!
You should change your oil every 3 months or every 5000 miles. So even if you only go 2000 miles in that 3 months you should still have the oil changed.

Before many of the new synthetic oils came onto the market it was recommended that you change your oil every 3000 miles or every 3 months. I still do this to all of my cars.
It needs to be every 5000 miles or 3 months, whichever is sooner. If you only drive your car 5000 miles a year, you still need to change the oil 4 times a year in order to meet your warranty requirements.

However, not changing your oil at the required interval should not affect the warranty of any part not affected by lack of oil maintence (eg. transmission issues)
Ok, first understand that auto manufacturers and petroleum companies are in bed together and have been since day one. So, a question, if oil can sit in the ground for millions of years, why does it go bad in your car in three months? Answer, it doesnt... and especially todays highly advanced oils.

Most oils today are good for around 5000 miles. This will vary according to your driving habits and the load your engine is under during operation (like towing boats, off road 4X4's). If you are only driving 20-30 miles per day (city driving), you are accumulating only 1800 miles in a three month time period. Keep an eye on the oil, if it starts looking dirty (opaque instead of translucent) change it if not go for the 3000 to 5000 mark. Of course all of this is fodder if you have warranty stipulations on oil changes.
shifty67 is right they are in it for the money oil starts to breakdown at about 8,000 miles and can sit for years.

When i change my car speakers, can i just take out the radio fuse instead of disconnecting the battery?

im changing the 2 first. which i can see if i lay down in my trunk. When i change my car speakers, can i just take out the radio fuse instead of disconnecting the battery? No, disconnect the battery.
When i change my car speakers, can i just take out the radio fuse instead of disconnecting the battery?
It's not necessary to disconnect the battery, or to remove the radio fuse, to change the speakers. There's no voltage on speaker wiring unless the radio is on.

I know many people say you should disconnect the battery before you do anything with your car's wiring, but if you're just changing speakers, it's really not necessary. This is a case where the risks involved with disconnecting and re-connecting the battery outweigh the risks from doing the work with the battery connected.

  • Changed car oil in spring '08 parked car 4-Winter, 2,000km on oil since, now spring'09 should I change the oil?

I'm mainly concerned about the time the filter has been on there and the formation of acids over winter.

normally i change it every 5,000km. But the car would get driven normally and the filter and oil wouldnt be in the car that long. SHOULD I CHANGE IT, with only 2,000km on the oil being as it was last changed may 2008?Changed car oil in spring '08 parked car 4-Winter, 2,000km on oil since, now spring'09 should I change the oil?yes oil will still break down while the car is sitting even the newest synthetics will do this although they will take longer. for the best care of your car i would suggest you do
Changed car oil in spring '08 parked car 4-Winter, 2,000km on oil since, now spring'09 should I change the oil?
It is usually recommended that the oil be changed every six months in a vehicle that is not being driven. On the other hand, I know people who only change it once a year.......

An oil change is cheap maintenance; if you're concerned, have it changed!
Changed car oil in spring '08 parked car 4-Winter, 2,000km on oil since, now spring'09 should I change the oil?
every 3 to 5000 miles al it needs if its been park then you didnt use the oil so it shoul dbe just fine but really wouldnt hurt either along with a tune up

Refund on insurance when downgrading your car?

I am trading my car in for something more economical with a smaller engine. I have paid my years insurance in advance and wonder whether, when changing the car on my policy, I will get a refund for the overpayment? In the past I have only ever upgraded and therefore had to pay an additional premium but this is obviously the opposite scenario!

Why would my dog's behavior in the car change suddenly?

My dog loves car rides. She runs out and jumps in the car, and even pouts when she can't go.

All of a sudden, she has started shivering and panting while in the car. At times she also whines and jumps around a lot. I have has her for 2 years and this is new behavior. Any ideas why the sudden change in behavior? Should I take her to a vet? She only does this in the car.Why would my dog's behavior in the car change suddenly?Well, it could be hormonal changes if you got her as a puppy and she's just now turning two. It could be that she remembers some traumatic experience after riding in the car (i.e. a trip to the vet that she didn't particularly like, i.e having her spayed). It could be car sickness and her way to avoid vomiting. If she was adopted, she might be fearful that you're going to %26quot;drop/abandon her%26quot;.

I don't really see a need to take her to the Vet for this specifically, but you might mention it to the Vet during her next visit; they might suggest trying Dramamine a half-hour or so before a car ride (won't hurt, but get the proper dosage from the Vet) to eliminate the most probable, car sickness.

    Good Luck!

Samy mentioned something you might think about...dogs have a much greater sense of smell that we do...could there be some exhaust leakage into the car that she can smell and you can't?
Why would my dog's behavior in the car change suddenly?
Of course that's a possibility, but I doubt it. Exhaust leakage (CO) might affect a dog more quickly and, provoke irrational behaviour, but they are also more likely to alert you to an unusual smell, or feeling than you might not notice.

Why would my dog's behavior in the car change suddenly?
Maybe she got cold or heard a noise that humans can't hear?
She sounds either overly stressed or overly excited.

you need to do some desensitizing.
Amy,I've had dogs all of my life and I am an adult and there is one thing that I do know as far as dogs being in cars, they have to have a window cracked at all times so they can stick their noses out,I have read that it has something to do with their equilibrium and ears,I don't know if you have had the windows rolled up in the car,but if you have you may want to try this and see if this could be your dogs problem,I hope this helps you out.

  • Can an average person change their car's shocks/struts in their garage?

I have a scion TC and I recently bought shocks and struts for it. I've changed my brakes before. I can't find anything on changing the suspension. Can an average person do this in their garage? Can an average person change their car's shocks/struts in their garage? If you can do the brakes yourself, you can do the shocks too. An average person can't even change their own oil. I would say you are above average. Haynes manuals are pretty good.
Can an average person change their car's shocks/struts in their garage?
yes, just make sure you get a front end alignment after you're done...
Can an average person change their car's shocks/struts in their garage?
I wouldnt you can break something and then be in bigger trouble.
with the proper tools and knowledge, yes. Get a book, rent the tools.
yeah you can find a person to change your shocks they are very esay to change....
probably not recommended, but if you good with cars or can get some advise from someone, sure why not. Should be that much harder than the brakes.
Dont take a risk call the maintenance guy
No. It takes special equipment, and you need experience to do something as difficult as that.
I would do it in a hearbeat , you need little knowledge. Especially with garages charging $85 an hour.

How do you get a car changed over into your name if you are still paying on it?

I want a car changed over in my name, how would I do it?How do you get a car changed over into your name if you are still paying on it?The bank will need to put the title completely into the ownership of the FIRST OWNER (S). This requires paying off the car.

An exception might be if the car was RE-financed, and the loan started over again with new payments and new interest.

Another exception might be a divorce case, then your lawyer would handle the details. Or a divorce paper could include a clause that when the car is paid off by %26quot;JOE%26quot;, it must be immediately signed over to %26quot;MARY%26quot;.
How do you get a car changed over into your name if you are still paying on it?
you can not unless you pay it off! if someone says different they either are lying or have no clue!
How do you get a car changed over into your name if you are still paying on it?
Where I live, you can't. The lender will always have a lien on the title. A lien is where the lenders name is also on the title. This is in case you decide to stop making payments on the car. The lender can then take possession (repossess) the car.

Also, if you want to sell the car with a lien on the title, you must fully pay the balance of the loan to have the lien removed from the title.

The only way to get your name only on the title and have the lien removed is to fully pay the balance of the loan.

The state will not release the title until they receive confirmation from the lender that the balance of the loan has been fully paid. The state then sends you a clear title with your name only on it.
You can't until you pay it off. As far as the govt. is concerned the finance company paid for the full price of the car, and is therefore the owner in full. That is why you have to have full coverage on a financed car until it is paid off, because you are basically driving someone else's car all the time.(as far as they're concerned)
You pay off the loan in order for the lienholder (the lender) to release the lien on the vehicle. If it isn't paid for, the lender still owns it and they are not going to release the lien.

    Help... changing the car battery?

My car (Chevrolet Cavalier 2002) is dead and I decided that I'm going to change the battery myself. I've read how to do it but I have one question. My car has a remote control starter in it and I was wondering if I had to do something different to install the battery? Will the starter work after the change or I have to program it or something? If it will not work tell me what to do step by step to fix itHelp... changing the car battery?look at your battery in the car and label what wires are connected to the positive and what to the negative.

    unhook them all

    remove the old battery

    put in the new battery

hook everything up to where you labeled it.
    Help... changing the car battery?
It'll be fine... just make sure you put all the connecting wires back to where they were
    Help... changing the car battery?
    just change the bettery. If remote start doesn't work, which i am sure it will, you will be able to take it to dealership and say- %26quot; it just stopped working!!%26quot;
Your remote starter simply gets power from the battery.

It doesn't program itself to the type or model of the battery.

The starter should not be effected at all by changing out the battery.

As for how to change the care battery... look in the link source I gave. :)
Why don't you change the battery. Then, if you have a problem, come back here.?
    Nothing should be different.
What I would do is remove the battery ( eather it is a side post or post on the top)take the connectors off and unsally the battery is bolted down,,loosen it up and remove it and do the same thing when you put the battery back in. OR Do something better than that,,,,Go to Auto Zone or any Auto Parts store and usally they will replace the battery if you buy a battery from them.
    no
just change the battery, the remote start does not have memory that would be lost, unlike ram. make sure to count ALL wires going to + side of battery and replace them ALL.

Alternatives to changing discs in the car?

I thought my new car came with a 6 Disc CD Changer, but apparently not. It has an iPod input port, but I don't have an mp3 player (and I don't plan on buying one). I have a few burned CDs with some really great songs, and I don't want to have to physically change discs while driving.

Is there anyway I could get the songs onto a DVD or something with more space so that I wouldn't have to change discs to put on different songs?Alternatives to changing discs in the car? What brand/model of CD player is it? is it stock stereo? If it plays MP3 songs then you can burn the MP3s to disc and hold more around 100 songs per disc. But you are best off with some sort of external player, that's why there is an MP3 input.
Alternatives to changing discs in the car?
When you go to burn a CD is Windows Media Player, hit the arrow below Burn and and Click Data CD or DVD instead of Audio CD. Load up with as many songs as the CD can hold.
Alternatives to changing discs in the car?
I've done this in the past - upload your music to your computer, and burn an audio disk with the files as wave files. I think the extension is .wmv

You will fit many more songs on the disc, I've fit as many as 22. However, that's still not a lot and you'll still have to change discs.

If it has an ipod input port, I'd just use that to be honest. Ipod shuffles are only $50 new, you can find them cheaper on ebay. Easier than changing cd's.

    Good luck.
you can't do anything except audio discs with this radio. I wopuld use the input port with mp3.

  • How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?

i have a 98 Muercry Mystic and i know that when i get the air compresser and blow air directly in to the air filter chamber i get more horse power, how do i achieve the same effect with out having to buy a turbo charger. any one know of a simple home made device? How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?Any time you can increase the forced air intake on a vehicle you gain horse power.

There are aftermarket items (The Tornado) that are made to increase airflow without comprimising the smog aspects (like california smog laws).

It's also not so much as the actual increased air amount but the amount of air that is fed into the EFI/Carburation system that actually provides this 'Boost'
How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?
Opening up the intake allows the engine to breathe better. Try routing the air intake duct to point toward the front of the car where the most air comes into the engine compartment and also remove the intake silencer. Good luck.
How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?
Aerodynamics is also important, have a look at what is slowing the car down, such as open windows.

here's more on aerodynamic drag, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_(physi鈥?/a>

It's not the most important thing to think of, for such a car, but it does help.
you can also put in like 92 or 93 octane gas so it gives you more power and it let your engine run more smooth.
the only way to better yourself and your mercury mistake is to buy a for sale sign and put it in the window. or take it to the junkyard.

you can double the value of your mercury mistake by filling the tank with gasoline.
Get a free air-filter set by the car grint and change the last muffler boiler. You may change the whole muffler set, but it takes

a car horsepower study. If it is at a point of 5.0 lit. ,change the whole pipe set and add the free filter. You'll get some acceleration

improvement and a kick down betterment, but don't expect turbo miracles! Put a bigger radiator and fan elice too.-

    Ciao.......John-John.
you can buy an aftermarket intake that will force more air into the engine in result more power an also you could probly change the throttle body too a bigger one which will open up the air flow even more. and opening up the exhaust will help it breathe better

Will changing the steel wheels to super light ones make a difference in my car while engauging clutch?
It will help a little for acceleration. Not very noticeable though. As far as the way it feels when turning that depends on the width of the rim and the profile of the tire. You get a wide rim and low profile tire it will corner the best.

  • How do i get a car changed from someones name to mine?

I bought a car when i was 16 and in order for me to get it my grandma put the car in her name. well now that i'm older and still making payments, i want to put it in my name so i can establish some credit since i have none. I live in michigan and i was wondering how i could go about this and what stuff i'd need to do it. I know you would need to go to secretary of state but how do i get it done? also does she need to come with me?How do i get a car changed from someones name to mine?to transfer the registration of the vehicle, you would need to contact your local title bureau. your granny would have to sign the title, and a notary will stamp it so that you can transfer the registration and plates over to your name.

now, if you are trying to get the financing info transferred over, that would be harder. you would have to contact the finance company and ask what their procedures would be to transfer the ownership of the loan over to you. sometimes, it may require that you refinance the vehicle. if that's the case, and you are close to paying the vehicle off...don't do it. it would just extend the life of the loan for a vehicle that may not be worth the money (no offense, but it's bad to refinance a vehicle because they depreciate in value).

    Hope this helps.
How do i get a car changed from someones name to mine?
you don't need the secretary of state, you just need the title to the car and your granny. go to an instant tag place-assuming you have them in your state-and have them transfer the title into your name. leastways that's how we do it here in pennsyltucky
How do i get a car changed from someones name to mine?

if there is still a loan on it, then you have to go to there the loan is and take over payments and have it all put in your name, if there is no lein on it, then you just need your grandma to sign over the tital

Is this car worth to buy?

I am changing car right now. I want to buy a used card. Is Kia Optima a good choice? It is a 2001 model. Here are the pecs:

    -V6

-Clean as new from inside and outside

-The dealer said it uns like new

    -Cloth seats

    -83000 miles

    -CD, AC, cassette, etc.

The dealer is selling this car for $4200. Is this a good deal?

And how many miles does it run in one gallon?

ThanksIs this car worth to buy?No, don't buy a KIA. Especially with 83k on it, go Japanese! The car will run for a lot longer and will hold up better in all aspects. Kia's are garbage, they aren't designed to run more than 100k miles, just remember, you get what you pay for. Buy a Honda, it will save you money in the long run, and it gets better gas mileage
Is this car worth to buy?
No KIA is a good choice. There all junk.
Is this car worth to buy?
Kias are much better than they used to be, but a 2001 model with 83K isn't a good investment unless they have all the maintainance records on it. It should get 30ish MPH highway.
Keep looking at your options, For that money you could still get a diesel VW that will get double the mileage of any gas car. Diesels are also built to last and since they have no electronic ignition system, are more reliable. 500,000 miles on the original engine is possible.

No Kia is a good choice, especially at that price for that many miles.

I pray that you invest your money elsewhere.

What is involved in changing a car over from a carb to fuel injection? Cost? Amount of time? Difficulty?

Check out your local high performance auto parts store and look into aftermarket kits for your ride.

If your not mechanicly inclined I would shy away from this one.

Cost..... easy $1000 and some intense labor. What is involved in changing a car over from a carb to fuel injection? Cost? Amount of time? Difficulty? Why bother, is really that hard to pump the gas once before starting the car?
What is involved in changing a car over from a carb to fuel injection? Cost? Amount of time? Difficulty?
Adapter for the throttle body or new intake manifold with injectors. New high pressure fuel pump and fuel line. Electrical wire to power everything.

It will be a good all day project that will cost between $1500 and $3000 depending on what you decide to use. A throttle body will be the cheaper route.

I'm looking to change car insurance companies. I currently have GEICO in NJ and my rate is 733 for 6 months.

I have no points and no accidents within 5 years time. I have no surcharges. Is this a good rate for full coverage on a 1997 Ford Taurus? I know of people who only pay this amount for full coverage for a year. Why is my rate higher than there's?I'm looking to change car insurance companies. I currently have GEICO in NJ and my rate is 733 for 6 months. You would be best served by a LOCAL independent agent. Typically, an independent will have a dozen or more companies to choose from to fit your individual needs.

Just look in your local phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you should find a professional agent there to help you. In NJ, you also have the NJAAA - New Jersey Auto Agents Alliance headed up by John Kerry Dyke. You might google them for leads to an agent in your area.

Good luck and I hope this helps!
I'm looking to change car insurance companies. I currently have GEICO in NJ and my rate is 733 for 6 months.
I also had a quote of about 700 for 6 months from Geico (had no at-fault accidents in 5 years), so I tried Progressive, and the quote was 380 for 6 months, so I went with that.
I'm looking to change car insurance companies. I currently have GEICO in NJ and my rate is 733 for 6 months.
I have GEICO in Queens, NY and am paying $259.30 for 6 months for a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am (my rate recently dropped by about $100). I'm a 45 year old single male and had one very minor accident 20 years ago, and one minor traffic ticket (driving on shoulder to exit highway) about 5 years ago that I don't think went on my record.

Some things that could be makling your rate higher:

    - Are you taking the minimum possible insurance coverage, or close to the minimum? I'm not saying having more coverage is a bad idea, but this could be making the cost higher. You should examine your policy and see if there are any ways to reduce your bill. Look at each coverage listed. The policy should explain the various options for each type of coverage. Sometimes coverages have deductibles and a higher deductible will lower the rate. Calling GEICO for advice on this can also be helpful, but I would suggest actually reading the policy in detail first.

    - Do you still have comprehensive and collision insurance? If you do, that could account for half of your cost. It is a waste of money on a 10 year old car, so you should get rid of it if you have that.

    - Is there anything that can get you a discount? I get a discount for anti-lock brakes and daytime headlights on my car. If you have anything like that it may or may not have been applied automatically and you may need to ask. The possible discounts should be explained in the policy also.

    - Are you using your car for work? This would make your rates higher. If you don't admit this and claim to drive 7,000 miles per year your rates will probably be lower. (Please note that I'm not suggesting that you lie, what you say is up to you.)

    - As someone else suggested, try calling other companies to see if you can get a lower rate. I think GEICO is cheapest where I live, but this may not be true in NJ.

    - NJ is a messed up state with incompetently designed roads and a poorly designed system of government. The jughandles are stupid and not even consistent (one intersection has it, the next has a left turn lane) . Many signs informing you of the exits are placed right at the exit, not half a mile before so you have time to get in the proper lane in advance to exit safely. The people there also don't know how to drive properly. I know this because I unfortunately lived there (Piscataway) for 6 months. I think you are just paying higher rates because of lousy roads and lousy drivers. If you are just as good a driver as me, you will still be more likely to have an accident because of poorly designed roads and the other drivers being worse. So to a large extent the only thing you can do to get lower rates is to move.
The rate does sound a little high for your type of vehicle.

Your rates are determined by a number of underwriting factors including your age, gender, type -make-and model of vehicle, number of miles driven annually, where your vehicle is located, your driving record, theft rates for your vehicle, etc.

Since you have a perfect driving record (congrats!) it sounds like you may want to compare premiums from other insurers to find see how much you may be able to save.

It usually is a good idea to compare rates at least every 2-3 years. Why pay the insurance company more than necessary?

One way to compare quotes online is to use a free service that offers you quotes from leading insurers with no obligation.

Take out your car insurance policy, so you can see what coverages you have, and go to InsureMe at http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Ref鈥?/a>

They will ask you several basic questions and give you up to five free quotes for auto insurance from leading insurers in your area. There's no cost and no obligation for this service.

They make it quick and easy to compare rates and plans and see if you can save some money.

I hope that helps! Best of luck to you and keep up the good driving.
I've never had the greatest quotes from Geico, but it depends on your driving history usually. If indeed you haven't had any violations for that period of time, you shouldn't be paying that much... particularly since this means you're at least 21 years old. It also sounds like you're trying to only carry minimum coverage (liability)?

If that's the case, you are paying to much... unless, based on your birthday, your rate just hasn't dropped yet.

I was paying $130/month for liability to State Farm from 18-21 because I'd had an accident which total the other driver's car when I was 17. When I hit 21, and my new billing period started, it dropped to $65/month... it's gone down more and more since, again, just for liability.

The only way to know if you can get a better rate is to compare NJ car insurance quotes by searching your zip code on sites like this:

When changing a timing belt due to noises in that area, what exactly should I change?

What are the parts do people usually change along with the timing belt? I know of the tensioner, tensioner spring, idler pulley, and tensioner pulley plus water pump. What else should be changed? My car is making a a lound weird low noise when the car is driven on small roads. So does anybody know what parts I should change along with the timing belt? ALso, what else do you guys change when changing a timing belt?

    I have a year 2000 Mazda Protege Es with a 1.8 L engine.

ThanksWhen changing a timing belt due to noises in that area, what exactly should I change?Check the bottom gear If It looks worn go ahead and change it, But if its ok don't bother, The early models had plastic gears so you had to change them good luck that should solve your problem.
When changing a timing belt due to noises in that area, what exactly should I change?
whenever i do a timing belt i replace any gaskets required to take them off, front cover, valve cover. i also change the tensioners, any idler pulleys, water pump. also have a look at the motor mounts and CV boots. also is a good time to do a tune up, replace plugs (wires if it has spark plug wires), change all fluids.

I would put the front of the car in the air and look under it to see if their is somthing loose. Are you sure it is the timing belt.

Roaring noise when changing gears in car?

Hi, I'm learning how to drive and almost always whenever I go up a gear the engine makes a roaring noise. It's not the same kind of roar as when you keep the accelerator down. The only way I can stop it happening is to come off the clutch really, really slowly, but this can't be right, can it? Can anyone think what I might be doing wrong?Roaring noise when changing gears in car?the fan clutch under the hood that the fan blade is bolted to,it plays part with the cooling of the radiator.

I want to try changing the 2 serpentine belts on my 2003 Dodge Intrepid.?

The employee at AutoZone says that all I likely have to do is loosen a bolt for the tensioner, take the belt off and put a new one on, then re-tighten the tensioner.

Is that all there is too it? Is is a tight space that I'll be working in or should I expect the car to give me some resistance? I'm pretty handy with tools and working on my car changing brakes and stuff, just so you know my experience level...

Thanks!I want to try changing the 2 serpentine belts on my 2003 Dodge Intrepid.?I would say if you are up to a challenge do it. I changed the serpentine belt in my 02 subaru impreza, it was a very tight space. Getting it off was easy, Just loosen the tensioner and pull the belt off. Putting it back on is the real challenge though but save some money and do it yourself. Good luck.

I want to try changing the 2 serpentine belts on my 2003 Dodge Intrepid.?
I have never changed a serpentine belt on a 2003 Dodge Intrepid, but I have changed plenty of them on other cars. It might be a little tight but normally it is pretty easy to do. I put a long wrench on the tensioner to pull it back and pull the belt off. route the belt back onto the pulleys the way they came off. There should be a belt routing diagram sticker some where under the hood. Find this sticker before you take the belt off and can't figure out how it goes back on. If you can't find it take a digital picture of it to make sure you don't forget how it goes. Put it back on and wrench the tensioner back to let the belt go back on. That's it.

look on the front of the vehicle under the hood for a diagram of the belt routing before you start this job or it will get real confusing, if its not their go buy a haynes repair manual ,because it has good illustrations of how to do this and many other jobs you might want to do on that car,its not hard to do but most people forget where and how the belt routes and wind up coming on here for answers, and a repair book with pictures beats any answer we can give you,and if your nice to them they might even change it for you for free, good luck and have good new years, and be safe,
Your vehicle does not have spring loaded tensioner for belt tension but an adjustable pulley as the person from Autozone stated. It's a matter of loosing the pulley, removing the belt and re-installing. This task is not difficult and if you are handy with tools (metric) you should have no problems. Good luck

Check for a belt diagram on the hood before you start. If it has no belt diagram make one yourself. If the rad is very close put a piece of card board between the rad and the belts so you don't knock a hole in the rad. Match the new belts with the old ones .

Do I need fancy tools to change my car tires?

My winter tires have their own rims. I've been changing them on my own with the tools provided with the car with the basics I learned back in high school. What I don't have is a that %26quot;torque wrench%26quot; or whatever it was called that tells you how tight the bolt is fastened. Would it be a good idea to buy one? Do I need fancy tools to change my car tires? It is a good idea to have a torque wrench. You can tighten the wheels enough so that they won't fall off by guessing how tight you have them but there are problems from this; stud and nut damage from over tightening, rotor warp-age from uneven tightening, loss of wheel from under tightening. As a mechanic, I torque wheels to specification. Not because I can't guess well with my impact, but because I do my job properly.
Do I need fancy tools to change my car tires?
I've changed wheels on all of my cars and only ever used a wheel spanner and tightened as much as I could. Never had any problems, an extendable wheel spanner is great as it gives you more leverage.
Do I need fancy tools to change my car tires?
If you aren't very good with changing the tyres or are unsure in anyway its always better to be safe then sorry , when changing a tyre always becarful not to %26quot;cross thread%26quot; the bolt as it goes on dont force it i usually just tighten it as hard as i can with my arms when I can tighten any further I stand on it your best undoing the bolts why the wheel is on the road jack the car up raise the wheel take bolts tyre off put the new tyre on tighten bolts as far as your arms will tighten them, then let the jack go put the tyre back on the road and then check eat nut one at a time by standing on the wrench with about half your wait
Do you mean you are changing tires already on rims or putting different tires on existing rims? If the former, all you really need is a car-jack and a 4-way, both of which you can buy at your local auto parts store(you may need some bolt-loosener if the lug-nuts are rusty). If the latter, i would suggest going to a tire shop and letting them put the tires on the rims, then balance them and then put them on your car.
I have changed many tires as a do it yourselfer never using a torque wrench but now as a shop owner, a torque wrench is cheap insurance even for the do it yourselfer, you can do damage by overtightening your lug nuts and obviously by under tightening you could lose a wheel, for a do it yourselfer you can pick up a cheap torque wrench at autozone and I feel it would be worth your while
change out your tires, make sure the lugs are tight.then go to a shop and pay the guy ten bucks to check that they are tight with an impact wrench.
It would not hurt to have a torque wrench. It isn't really critical but I do it myself to my wheels. It makes me feel better to know that they are tight .

Is it bad if I leave my car unattended when changing oil?

Whenever I change my oil, I usually leave it overnight so that I can get as much oil out as possible. Is this really necessary to do? And by doing so, am I putting my engine in danger by allowing foreign material to possibly enter the drain hole?Is it bad if I leave my car unattended when changing oil?I don't like to leave the oil pump dry that long. also the wind could blow dirt in if it's outside.
Is it bad if I leave my car unattended when changing oil?
it doesnt matter. but yeah leaving it open could lead to problems. you can just put new oil in, new filter, close the cap and you're done.
Is it bad if I leave my car unattended when changing oil?
actually i do all the time, and have for years....its fine :)
It's not really necessary, but it'll be OK unless a snake crawls up in there....lol

Automatic car is shifting really hard - why ?

I have an automatic '98 Honda Civic and recently I have been able to feel the car changing gears. I haven't been able to feel this before, but when the car reaches 3-4 rpms, it will kind of jump and switch (which is normal, duh), but its a really hard jump, like you would feel in a manual transmission. I just got the oil changed and nothing is mechanically wrong with it. Is it time for a new car ? Or just a new part ?Automatic car is shifting really hard - why ?I would first have the transmission fluid and filter serviced. Dirty fluid can cause build up in the trans. This can cause a lot of problems, and hard shifting is just the start of it. So have the fluid changed by a professional ( I dont suggest the local quick lube either. They are NOT qualified to dignose any internal problems in the trans.) Hope this works for you.
Automatic car is shifting really hard - why ?
Before you just change the fluid check the level to see if it is full. Low fluid will cause this problem as well
Automatic car is shifting really hard - why ?
You need to have your transmission fluid and filter changed. It needs to be changed every 30 thousand miles or so. But when you change it if you put in too much fluid it can really damage your engine, when it comes to tranny fluid it's better to be under than over!

I have a new job with a monthly car allowance of $450. Is this taxable income? Should I document my miles...?

in case my expenses go beyond the allowance? What is considered an expense? Just the gas costs? Or that plus oil changes, car payments, insurance, etc? Help! Please be comprehensive in your answer. Thank you very much!I have a new job with a monthly car allowance of $450. Is this taxable income? Should I document my miles...?standard mileage is 48 1/2 cents per mile for 2007. You should be keeping a log of your miles. Your commute miles do not count. Commute miles are the miles you drive from home to your first work location and from your last work location to home.

If you claim the standard mileage rate it includes gas, repairs, depreciation, etc. unlike the actual costs wherein you have to document all charges, etc. Most people use the standard rate.

You will need to keep a log of your mileage used each day also tolls and parking fees.

When you prepare your taxes you will need to know when you placed your vehicle in service, how many miles you drove for the year, how many were busines miles and how many were commute miles.
I have a new job with a monthly car allowance of $450. Is this taxable income? Should I document my miles...?
The car allowance is intended to cover all costs of using your car for business - gas, maintenance, insurance, depreciation. It is taxable income and you can't also claim a mileage deduction. If you feel the $450 is insufficient, that is a matter to be resolved between you and your employer.

  • What does changing gears in a car do mechincally speaking?

Does it changed how many pistons are used? What happens in the engine when you change gears and why do you go faster after changing to a high gear? What does changing gears in a car do mechincally speaking?all that changes in the engine is load and rpm, the transmission is physically changing the gear ratio that it is using to multiply power to the next device (transfer case or differential. by changing to a higher gear you change to a closer to 1:1 ratio (under drive) or an overdrive ideally ( output is turning faster than the input.)
What does changing gears in a car do mechincally speaking?
    ye-yeah, dats rite!
What does changing gears in a car do mechincally speaking?
At lower gears, the engine will transfer power to wheels, but the engine will run at very high revolutions per minute (rpm) to do so. This is actually a good thing when the car is starting from a dead stop. There is enough power going to the wheels to get the car moving, and the engine is turning fast enough to keep it moving.

As the car goes faster, the engine can no longer go any faster, but it is still only transferring a small amount of momentum to the car. A gear change allows the car's engine to slow down, but transfer more momentum from the engine turning to the car's wheels. This is accomplished by changing the gear ratio in the tranmission. When you move to a higher gear, the gears on the engine side get more teeth, and the gears on the drive shaft get fewer teeth. This allows the engine to transfer more momentum to the wheels. This process continues as you move to higher gears.

Each time the gear ratio changes to a higher gear, the car must be moving faster. The higher gears are able to transfer momentum, that is revolutions of the engine, efficiently to the wheels, but they are not able to transfer torque as efficiently. Torque is the ability of the engine to overcome the resistance o the drive shaft to turning. Torque is highest at the lower gears.

    Hope this helps.

Try NHTSA and NADA for the car info on whats out there that has had problems. The Toyota and Volvo at present are the two best to get because of the least filed complaints, stay away from Ford trucks and Mercedes as well as Honda, they all are having some problems and don't leave out the new Hyundai, I'm sorry to have to give you bad news but its my job. I am moving from AZ to NY for work. I will be renting an apartment in NY, but will still own my house in AZ. Since I have a residence in AZ, could I keep the car registered there, even if the car will be in NY most of the time for probably the next 6 months? You need to declare one residence, where all of your legal documents, will be housed. I would think finding parking available in NY, would be highly difficult. Maybe better to leave the car in AZ, and cab ride in NY.

How much did they weigh and how tall were they?

I took my daughter for her check up and was told not to turn her car seat around yet because she are changing the laws to where she stays rear facing until she is 2....Problem is she is 30 inches tall and weighs 20 pounds....The straps are tight on her and they have no more give....Should i call and talk to the doc or where can i find the state laws...We live in texas.

Thanks! When did you change the car seat to forward facing? How old was ur child?I believe in Texas the law is still that they have to be at least one year of age and weigh at least 20 lbs. I changed my oldest son's car seat around when he was 14 months because he didn't weigh 20 lbs until then. My youngest son is almost 8 months and is 29 inches tall and weighs over 20 lbs, so he will be turned around on his first birthday. You can call the highway patrol's non emergency number and get the up to date information.

Please - look into rear facing your babies beyond 1. There is hard data that proves it is 75% safer to rear face a child to age 2+.

I live in Texas as well. My 19 month old was probably about 7 or 8 months when I turned him around. He was almost 20 pounds. I don't know how tall he was. His doctor told me when he is one and weighs 20 pounds. We were stopped by police when he was younger and they didn't say anything to me. My 6 month old I haven't turned around yet. But I will soon.

If the straps are too tight then get her a new car seat and turn her around. My son is perfectly fine and he now 19 months and loves to look out the windows and see all the cars, etc... I haven't heard of that law yet. Or that law changing.

    Good Luck!
i also live in texas and i had to wait until my son was 22lbs. normally the car seat you have will say in the manual or on the actual seat itself what the maximum weight and height is. you might have to upgrade to a different car seat. you might also be able to call your local police dept. or dept. of public safety and ask what the requirements are for facing your child forward. hope this helps.
If the straps are too tight then you need to move up to a convertible carseat. Those can face backwards. We waited until our kids were 1 yr old but they have always been big for their age. The only reason for backward facing is the risk of neck injury. I think by age 1 they are developed enough to face forward. I dont see how a 2 year old would fit, their legs would be too long!
we lived in Tx at the time, my son was about 11 months, and was 20 lbs. I havent heard of that law yet. but i know that they did change the booster sit law, your child has to be 8 now before you can stop using them. Call the DMV, maybe? they should know
My son was 1 when we switched him. It is best to keep them rear-facing as long as possible, but I could not get my son to stop crying while riding in the car rear facing.

If your baby does not complain keep her rear-facing as long as the weight restrictions allow.
I remember seeing an ad for Graco on a %26quot;Rear for a Year%26quot; Campaign. They have rear facing car seats that go up to over 30 lbs I believe. It's black and red. Check it out on BabiesRUs.com
My daughter is 16 months. At her 12 month check-up she was 20lbs. and 31.5 inches tall. She's still rear facing. It's safest, and I feel no need to turn her around yet. She doesn't complain :)
We switched the seat to forward facing when our kids were 1 and roughly 20 lbs.
I waited until my child was 13. I'm over protective.
    She was newborn.
    One year old.

Can you lower your car by just changing springs?

i plan to lower my car with tein springs - 1.9 in the front and 1.7 in the back...is it necessary to change the shocks/struts too?Can you lower your car by just changing springs?yes you can lower it with just springs but not go all the way and get shocks/struts it will improve the over ride quality and handeling on the car and it most states it illegal for the car to be lower than 22 inches from the center of the headlight... 4 years your pretty lucky.. or maybe you should give me a ride and ill tell you if they are blown
Can you lower your car by just changing springs?
Yes you can lower the car by just changing the springs however changing the shocks/struts will improve overall feel and bump absorbsion. Just need to make sure youre not fully bumping the shocks, in other words make sure there is enough suspension travel!
Can you lower your car by just changing springs?
(talking from my own experience) I wouldn't just cut a springs, because your car will ride like crap. I bought already lowered car, someone just cut OEM springs, and I did not have pleasing experience riding it. If you want to lower it, get a full lowering kit (coil springs, shocks, etc.)
If you only put lower springs on your car to lower it, you will severely affect the camber of the alignment. The tire will not be touching the road completely and it may affect the cars handling negatively. Also, you will quickly wear out the inside of your tires. There are camber kits available on eBay that will correct this problem.
If you want to lower your car then buy a new suspention kit to suit your car.

Don't cut the stock springs to lower your car
My best advice to you is to do it right or don't do it at all. If you're not going to spend the $ for shocks, you might as well just heat up your stock springs with a torch %26amp; lower it that way (a horrible idea). You WILL eventually blow out your shocks if you don't replace them with something sufficient.
I really can't believe there are so many design engineers on here! Leave the suspension alone,it was designed for the best stability and handling for the vehicle, also in most states it is illegal.I am an engineer and a former police officer. You have no Idea of the problems this can cause.
you're gonna have to get a major allignment afterwards
it is best to lower with aftermarket springs but is not necessary. I lowered my integra, 1.75 front and 1.5 rear on stock shocks. If i had the money i would change out the shocks. I handles a little better, ride is a little stiffer and it has a more agressive apearence. And on a honda there is plenty of suspension travel, so lower away. But some cars like a lot of nissans do not have a lot of suspension travel and the suspension will always hit the bump stops. You'll be fine with a honda though.

They have been on for 4 years and my stock shocks are not blown.
Its not necessary to change them, but what will happen is the stock struts will not have enough travel to dampen properly and the car will ride like a boat in the ocean, after the strut rod blows. It WILL happen, depending on the road conditions, distance traveled, and condition of the struts, it could be in 1 month to a year.
But won't the stock shocks blow out or anything like that? I've read on some forums that your stock shocks will only last abt 3 mths.

I am actually thing abt lowering mine too but that's the only thing keeping me back. I got some tiens too abt 2%26quot; frt 1.7 back...probabbly same as yours!

[EDIT] Sweet! But is it safe for everday use? For the teg...is it your everyday car???

I like the lowered look...it gives a nice clean style to the civics (mine is 96).

4 Years! woo! And still handles? nice
