Automatic car is shifting really hard - why ?

I have an automatic '98 Honda Civic and recently I have been able to feel the car changing gears. I haven't been able to feel this before, but when the car reaches 3-4 rpms, it will kind of jump and switch (which is normal, duh), but its a really hard jump, like you would feel in a manual transmission. I just got the oil changed and nothing is mechanically wrong with it. Is it time for a new car ? Or just a new part ?Automatic car is shifting really hard - why ?I would first have the transmission fluid and filter serviced. Dirty fluid can cause build up in the trans. This can cause a lot of problems, and hard shifting is just the start of it. So have the fluid changed by a professional ( I dont suggest the local quick lube either. They are NOT qualified to dignose any internal problems in the trans.) Hope this works for you.

Before you just change the fluid check the level to see if it is full. Low fluid will cause this problem as well

You need to have your transmission fluid and filter changed. It needs to be changed every 30 thousand miles or so. But when you change it if you put in too much fluid it can really damage your engine, when it comes to tranny fluid it's better to be under than over!
