Does changing things in your car raise insurance ?

I'm getting a second hand corsa, but i want to redo the interior with new seats as it looks shabby, install tinted windows and a surround sound system.

Will this affect insurance ? ( i'm 17 )Does changing things in your car raise insurance ?You need to inform your insurance company of any %26quot;upgrades%26quot;. If you don't and the car is written off then you will only get the basic price for a %26quot;standard%26quot; car.

Yes, increasing the value of the vehicle will increase your premiums.

No, not for upholstery refurbishment unless it is gold plated!. The engine power upgrade would.
Does changing things in your car raise insurance ?
hey .. things like tints and new seats shouldn't affect your insurance

its the big things like new alloy wheels or a body kit that you need to tell them you have as if you have a crash and they get damaged but you haven't told your insurance that they are there then the wont pay you money to fix wats damaged .. hope this helps x
Be careful about tinting the windows see here

Usually replacing seats and surround sound will not be a problem, as I mentioned above there are lots of rules on tinting the windows.

The real trouble starts when people start adding spoilers and wheel arches ,its best to check with the insurance company just in case though.
Insurance companies base insurance of a car as it would come off the assembly line.

Any modifcations does not change your insurance, unless you feel that they are so expensive that you want them to be insured and have those modifications added to your insurance and THAT can raise your insurance.

If you don't have those modifications insured then damage to them may not be insured in case of an accident or theft.

Unless you are also thinking of the factory warranty which may be voided out if you change a factory item with something that can damage your car or is improperly installed.
Only safety related changes will affect you insurance. The exception being if you significantly increase it's value and you want the new value recorded so that you may be able to claim more than the original valuation. You may be asked for a higher premium in this case. But general tarting up will be within the insured valuation.
it would if you increased the value by doing this, as the premium would be increased to accommodate the higher than average market price, putting in a expensive stereo system will invite broken windows and theft, resulting in a higher insurance premium on renewal, as even if you don't claim you must inform them of damage or theft, this will result in them applying a higher premium as the risk is greater, unless it is garaged when not in use.

17 year olds are locally being charged 拢1500 a year insurance about 拢 30 per week, on this type of vehicle!! this does drop as soon as they are 18 and/or have a years no claim discount, you may do well to keep a low profile and not invite theft for a couple of years until the premium drops down , and you can pay bonus protection to protect it.
It's best to inform to be on the safe side.
Anything changed from stock need to be notified to your insurers.

Performance wise (although doubtful with a Corsa) you need to tell them as you are more likely to get into trouble being a new driver.

Looks wise and ICE you need to tell them as it makes the car more attractive to a thief and therefore more likely to be broken into or stolen.

If you don't tell them and something happens you may find you are not covered.
Cosmetic enhancements do not usually cost more at all.

Illegal tinting of the windows in front of the rear of the front doors can void most insurances.

Some insurers will not include enough cover for sound systems to allow like for like replacements.

Most insurers will only replace modifications with standard factory fit items.

Some insurers will insist that younger drivers have no mods whatsoever, cosmetic or performance on the cars.
No it shouldn't affect insurance rates, but in case of a loss they will not pay for for your cost of the new interior, the tinted windows or an expensive sound system. You need to speak with your agent to learn how this all works,
