Has car body design changed much in 10 years?

It looks like to me car body styles haven't changed in the last 10 years. Aside from the novelty cars like the PT Cruiser, or new model names, I'm talking about the body styles of common compact cars or suv's that the majority drive. Because through the history of cars we can see how over 10 years period noticeable changes in car design. I don't see that in the current cars very well. What do you think?Has car body design changed much in 10 years? There is no question in my mind that auto designers/engineers are getting their credentials out of Crackjack boxes. Look at either the front or rear of most cars and note how the elements seem to fight each other. The %26quot;bumpers%26quot; are out of proportion to the rest of the elements and make most cars look as if they are surrounded by aprons. Triangular tail or headlights create a conflict of lines. Car designs often make elements look humorous, like the rear ends that resemble partial open garage doors. You are right, car designs went south in the middle 1990s and 99 percent of cars on the road today are butt ugly.

I agree, design seems to be dictated by computer nowadays although every now and then somebody 'breaks the mould' The Honda Civic for example. Most manufacturers seem happy to 'facelift' old models every couple of years.Car makers seem content to share common platforms i.e. Ford/Mazda and Mercedes/Dodge vans Although it's safe to say huge advances have been made in crash protection over the past few years. If people keep buying them they'll just keep churning them out! A.k.a 'Belly button' cars (everybody has one!)

No... duh! except for maybe the jeep and some other cars.... (that old car maker... i forget its name)
The Ford Taurus was the last car to bring something new and reveolutionary to car design, and that was back in the 80s.

Most of the new designs are %26quot;retro%26quot; which is just recycling old designs. But it pretty much has all been done, and I don't see anything changing unless the basic definition of what a car is changes sometime soon
yes they have they are looking spacer
Well to me they have changed alot!
