Why does my car keep blowing the ignitio fuse?

i drive a 99 grand am se, car had no cruise control on it and how ever i had a whole new column put in my car that has the cruise buttons on the wheel since the column has been changed my car will not start and keeps blowing the #5 fuse under the hood its for the igniton.

anyone know what the problem is?Why does my car keep blowing the ignitio fuse?i own a repair shop, and some where you have a wire crossed on it or it has one that has went to ground basically a short in it,but that's what causes them to blow fuses either that or its trying to draw way to much voltage from it,and that will also cause it,but you need to look at the old steering column and see if the color codes matched up good on the columns, that would be a good starting point with it,good luck maybe this will help .

It'll be a dead short in your wiring harness, probably from the new steering column.

You're going to need to disconnect the main power and use an Ohmmeter to check every connection back until you find the problem.

Since you have %26quot;modified%26quot; the car, I suggest that you refer to a QUALITY repair manual, and inspect the wiring diagrams for vehicles with and without C/C, and check the harness plugs for proper wiring orientation. It appears that you might have a wire or two crossed.
It sounds like a mismatched harness connector...even though the connectors may look the same, often the column connector has different pins assigned to the wiring pattern.

Also, the ignition switch itself may have a broken contact in it that is causing a %26quot;live short%26quot; across to another terminal.
