I have a Tamilnadu registered car & I have paid lifetime tax in that state.Now I have brought my car to Mumbai?

Here the Traffic police are harassing me to change the registration no of my car to MH. Is it really necessary again to pay Life time tax for my car and change it to Maharashtra registration, since I had already paid the Life time tax as per MV act, in Tamilnadu.Please give me a solution.Thanks.
